Basil is a favorite among many cooks for its incredible flavor, which is at its peak when used fresh from the plant. The sweet tasting miniature leaves are ready for use straight off the plant. No chopping or mincing required. For best flavor, add fresh basil at the end of the cooking process.

Chives are a versatile culinary herb used in potatoes, quiche, fish, soups and pancakes. The flowers are also edible and have a mild garlic flavor. Add the herb at the end of the cooking process to insure the most intense flavor. Best used fresh from the plant but can be dry frozen as well, without much loss in taste.

Lavender leaves are intensely aromatic right from the start and said to have a relaxing effect. The flowers are edible and can be used raw in salads, added to stews, used to season cookies, ice cream, candied or even brewed in tea. Lavender pairs especially well with dark chocolate.

Mint is a perennial herb bursting with fragrance and flavor enlivening endless dishes and drinks. To encourage low bushy growth, harvest leaves frequently and pinch off tops. Growing mint in a container is a perfect way to enjoy the freshly harvested herb and control its tendency to spread in the garden.

Mom includes Dwarf zinnias, easy to grow beautiful plants with multi petaled flowers that bloom in a variety of bold colors. A growing expression of best wishes to Mom. Zinnias have a long blooming season from spring through autumn. To encourage more blossoms, pinch off old blooms.

Oregano is an essential herb in southern Italian and Greek cuisine. Oregano blends wonderfully with spicy sauces and enhances grilled lamb, chicken and fish. When cooking with oregano a little typically goes a long way so most cooks taste as they go and add more if needed. The leaves also dry well and many believe oregano, when dried, mellows and deepens in flavor.

Mini-Snapdragon gives rose-pink clusters of flowers on sturdy stems named for the flower head which, when laterally squeezed, is reminiscent of the head of a dragon opening its mouth. To encourage more blossoms, pinch off old blooms.

Alpine Strawberry are decorative little plants that produce delicious aromatic red strawberries, about twice the size of wild berries. They will bear fruit the second year, although in some cases they may bear fruit the first fall. Alpine strawberry plants stay compact and produce few runners, so they make great houseplants when they aren't producing fruit.
